Baby Vince with Mommy and Daddy the first time
I have downloaded our recent pictures after my labor 2 days ago. Hubby did found the usb cable yesterday and voila, I got one good family picture to share. This picture was taken this Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 9:25 PM after baby Vince was born. I remember everyone helped me at that very last hard minute. I felt strong and painful contractions due to induced labor. They got me induced because I had a premature cervical dilation of 4 cms 2 days ago, they gave me Magnesium sulfate to stop the contraction and they gave a methadone shot for baby’s lungs to mature before labor. I remember I had lots of pricks as they have to monitor the Magnesium level in myblood. Tuesday, they stopped the Mag Su and I am already 6 cm dilated. Still I did not feel any painful contractions but it may be because the Mag Su is still winding down in my system. Wednesday 9 AM, my bag of waters raptured, I am 7 cm dilated. I felt sleepy when they gradually increased the Pitocin level, and around 6 PM Wednesday. The Doctor is worried because my body is slow in responding to the medication of inducing labor. I got up and out of the bed, did some some squatting exercises and walking around the room, heard the baby’s heart beat and it is normal, and my husband and I prayed almost 9 rosaries that day. Around 7 PM Wednesday, I felt cramps and I went back to bed. The contractions got stronger and closer 2 minutes apart, and I felt the urge to bear down, and I told my hubby to call the nurse. Suddenly, my world feels like there is an atomic bomb that is going to hit soon. I think I shouted loud because of the pain, and about three times of pushing, I felt the flush of hot water, and the baby came out. It was a quick one they said, and thank God, no lacerations this time. The Placenta was a bit delayed in coming out but I’m glad that the hardest part of labor has finally done. I had skin to skin contact with my baby. I felt new in holding him as he is a tiny baby compared of holding George the first time when he was a newborn. George was 8.52 lbs, Vince is 6.2 lbs. They say he is quite a big baby in his premature age.

I could not help but shed a tear when I saw your photo with that blissful smile on your lips and that of your husband. All the pain of hard labor and contractions have been erased in your mind and what lingered was that ecstatic feeling of love and belonging for your entire family. Could not help but remember a familiar scene in Bethlehem more than two thousand years ago when Mary gave birth to baby Jesus. Praise the Lord that you survived all those ordeals. God is really good. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
