Eighteenth day in Syracuse
July 22, 2011
Night passed and morning came. I told the nurse that I will stay until the 12 noon feeding for Vince so I can be with my other son in the afternoon. She said it was ok and after a while she came back to tell me to stay a little bit longer because the Doctor just did his rounds and might discharge Vince that day. I felt surprised. I went to eat lunch with hubby and George in the hospital cafeteria and told them the promising news. The lady in the cafeteria gave George lots of kisses and hugs as she will miss him and us when we will go home that day. We spent lots of times in that hospital’s cafeteria and they really cook delicious food. So I went back to NICU and the nurse greet me and she said that she will give me the discharge instructions any moment. I felt my heart beating fast. I asked her again if we are going home that day and she said yes we were. I excused and went to my husband in the waiting room outside the NICU and told him the big news. He was surprised and beaming to every one in the waiting room that we are finally going home that day. Everyone congratulated us and they are excited for us. My husband easily finds friends everywhere he goes. And so I went back to the NICU and I saw a big back full of my frozen breast milk. The nurse said that I got two big trays of depositing breast milk every visit I did for Vince. It almost filled up their freezer. She gave me a couple of things for Vince, she gave a sleep sack with St. Joseph’s embroidery in it, his body suit and a couple more things that would be a great memorabilia for Vince. That was nice of her to think ahead for us. She gave me a bunch of papers to sign and said that they already called our pediatrician and my OB about the things happened to me in their hospital. After that, we got Vince into the car seat and they helped us carry things on the way out of the hospital. What a happy day. We felt overwhelmed. We head straight to Ronald Mcdonald house and packed up our things around 3-5 PM. Paper works and fees done in the charity house. They also gave us a couple of things for Vince, that was nice of them. We hit the road around 6 PM. Stopped by a Chinese restaurant to eat while in Bradford. We head straight home and arrived 12:30 AM. What a relief it is to sleep in your own bed.
