My love for beans just keeps on coming

Isn’t it funny that simple food can often be most people’s favourite? Your friends and family might try to fob you off, pretending that their last meal would be something a little more on the posh side – a caviar dish, smoked salmon or an exquisite veggie risotto, for example – but the reality is, no matter how posh your food, most of us might end up covering it with piping hot baked beans.

What is so fantastic about those little nuggets of goodness is how versatile they are. Whether it’s the classic dish of beans on toast, or perhaps a jacket potato covered in the amber-coloured beauties, there is a vast array of options available for those with a love of beans. Not only can they form the main ingredient of a number of dishes, but they are also a popular accompaniment for plenty of other meals – how many of us could really consider a full English breakfast complete without a helping of baked beans? And can we really call a sausage and mash supper a proper meal if it’s lacking beans?

You might wonder what’s led me to bang on about beans so much – I’ve asked myself the same question, if I’m being entirely honest. The only thing I can put it down to is the latest ad campaign for Heinz Baked Beans. The ‘ring my bell’ TV advert has returned once again and it won’t surprise you to know that it is one of my favourites. There was even a competition launched about it via their Facebook page – something I didn’t hesitate to enter.

When I found out about the competition I knew I had to get involved so I logged on to the Heinz Facebook page (yes, I had already ‘liked’ it so didn’t struggle to find it) where I answered a question about the ad.

I think why the ad appealed to me and brought me to tell you all about how much I love beans and anything beans related is because it shows the diversity of the beans audience. My gran loves beans, my dad loves beans, and all of my friends love them too. The ad does a great job of showing off the fact that they aren’t a product which identifies with one small demographic, they’re a versatile food which has won a spot as an endemic part of British culture.

Not only does the advert manage to sum this up in a few short minutes, but it also helps promote the latest success story for the Heinz Baked Bean franchise – their snackpots! Offering the chance for you to enjoy your favourite beans without going through the hassle of opening a full tin, these convenient snack-sized portions are a great addition to the baked bean family and one I intend to familiarise myself with a lot during these cold winter months.
