I made this pork siomai for the first time. Preparing it was easy but wrapping it into siomai was hard part for me. Look at my siomai, they look pretty when not yet cooked but once cooked the folds doesn’t look the way I fold them before. At this point, I didn’t matter how it looks as long as it taste delicious. I’m glad my kids and my husband also loved it.
For the ingredients: 2 pounds ground pork, 5 tablespoon sesame oil, 1 raw egg, 1 cup grated carrots, 1 cup minced onions, 1/4 cup green onion, salt and pepper for seasoning, and wonton wrappers. I know my ingredients are too short because I can’t find the right turnip to add in the mixture. The original recipe also calls for 1 cup minced shrimps and 1 cup minced mushroom. I also heard adding water chestnuts is also good.
For the sauce: 1 lemon, soy sauce and minced garlic.
For the procedure: Mix all ingredients except the wonton wrapper in a bowl. Make your index finger and thumb meet, forming a circle. Place wonton wrapper on top. Scoop 1 tablespoon of meat mixture and dip it at the center of the wrapper. Wrap sides to the center and add a little bit of meat mixture at the top. Prepare the steamer. I used Oster and Aroma steamers. Mine cooked for 45 minutes. Once cooked, serve warm with separate sauce in a small bowl. Enjoy!
