Liking a Honda Odyssey and Chainsaw Carving

It was in July, our Kia Rondo engine just made a loud bang and gave off lots of smoke while we are on the road (riding upwards on a hill). It continued to drive us on top and to a nearby gas station. Bummer that it happened on our way to a Bible conference. We did not get the bad news right away. My husband suspected it was probably the timing belt but it was not.

We got home immediately after a flat bed truck took us and our car to our local garage. We’re relieved that it’s less than 50 miles trip which our Auto insurance can cover. We’re so grateful that my husband’s Mom let us borrow her car after she heard our news and we zoomed back on the road to get to our Bible conference which is 4-5 hours away. To cut the story short, it took us two weeks without a car after that and luckily, my husband’s Mom let him borrow her car. It was a nice gesture of her to do that even though it will leave her without a car for a while. My husband and I researched for 2 weeks in the internet on cars available for sale and he got worried that our money savings will only afford a very cheap, used car with very high mileage (which has very low assurance if it can survive us a year). We prayed a lot for a good decision and we got another help from his Mom to afford us a decent used car with high-mileage. We really can’t afford to loan another low mileage used car this year. We really need to build up savings in order to loan another low mileage car that will suit our family needs. We just hope this 2003 Honda Odyssey will last over a year or 2 (or longer). It’s close to a 200,000 mileage at present and it has maintenance that needs attention for every specific mileage that we’ll achieve. Some owners say Honda cars can even last for 400,000 mileage but I hope it won’t cost us a lot for its maintenance needs.

The Honda Odyssey has lots of nice features than our past car. The ground clearance is a little higher which is good. More room and has 6 adult passenger seats or 4 adults and 3 child passenger seats. The trunk is pretty decent and the fact that it has power windows and remote controls adds a little luxury.

I thank my brother in law who took his time to help us in our car hunting on site. We searched locally, in Jamestown NY, Craiglist and other sites in the internet and we found the ONE in New Motors in Erie, PA. We’ve faced different car dealer salesman but on the last one we met, he was really non-aggressive. That’s him posing in front of the Odyssey in the first picture. The same day, on our way home, we stopped by at a Chainsaw carving site on the side of the road. There was this cool T-rex and Black bear carvings. To think that the artist used chainsaw on these is really, really cool! They were like life-sized and look at those scary details! Oh well, my husband and my brother did some silly pose with the T-rex (which took some stress off from car hunting) and I took a picture of myself with the bear.

Hope you enjoy our pictures! Will share more pictures next time.

BTW, has anyone owned an Odyssey? Please don’t forget to share your owner experience here!
