I have fond memories when I took the course 3 classes in Wilton cake decorating. I love that the flowers I made with gumpaste really turned out what I want them to be. For some reason, it’s easy to manipulate gum paste than butter cream. I learned that it really helps that you will be able to make many flowers after you take each day of the class.
Here’s the final cake I made in the course 3 class.
I made the inside cake from scratch and it was the midnight dark chocolate cake with german chocolate filling from the old Betty Crocker bantam recipe book. The white and chocolate fondant were pre-made or commercial that I bought from Wilton. The instructor said that the Wilton fondant has really improved over the years. I must say I’m happy that it doesn’t need too much kneading and that it’s easily playable. I really wish I could make my own fondant and gumpaste someday as the commercial ones are very expensive. For 24 oz of Wilton white fondant, it costs $7.29 and if you choose the colored ones, it’s $4-5 more. For 1 pound of Wilton gumpaste, it costs $10.99.
I wasn’t able to take the 3rd day of this class as my husband and I have to attend a Bible conference. But before the second day begin, I made sure I made 3 of each carnations, mums and daisies which will be the flowers to be covered on the 3rd day class. I showed them to our instructor. I’m glad she liked how mine turned out. So I was confident to make more when I went home.
I was able to make 1 dozen of each mums, carnations, daisies, red and pink roses and calla lilies. There are times my hands felt tired but it’s worth it. I really had fun and enjoyed learning new cake decorating techniques. Check out my post of the 1st and 2nd day updates here.
Here’s me holding my Course 3 certificate of the Wilton Method of Cake decorating. Smiles.
I encourage you too to join a Wilton cake decorating class near you!
