A woman’s hen weekend is one of the most important weekends of her life (obviously not as important as the weekend of the wedding) and it needs to be planned to perfection, with both the bride and her hen party being completely happy with the activities, the celebrations and most importantly, the destination. More soon-to-be-brides are choosing to go abroad to celebrate their last days of life as a single woman.

Europe is the destination of choice; weekend breaks can be cost effective, the travel time is reduced and there are so many locations that are ideal for a large group of excited women to help their friend or relative dispel any pre-wedding nerves.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the ideal place for those who like to embrace the local nightlife at the same time as experiencing some of the local culture. As a place which can cater for all ages, Amsterdam has a little bit of everything.

The nightlife is the biggest benefit to the place, yet during the day, there are lots of activities to keep the pace of the hen weekend. The Van Gogh Museum is a must see as well as the Royal Palace.

Dam Square is the best place to stay if nightlife is the true reason for your visit, fortunately, Amsterdam Hotels are located in all the best parts of the city to make sure you are in a key location for your weekend.

Marbella

This is an incredibly popular destination with celebrities. Many start their summers by visiting this resort, located in the south of Spain. The area is known for being overrun with famous faces, having incredible nightlife and luxurious beaches. Although Marbella has sights to see and a cultural side, the nightlife is the main pull for visitors. There are plenty of activities to do during the day, including sight-seeing, sun bathing and celebrity watching. Its a popular place most of the year round, although it is best to visit it during peak season for the full experience.

Ibiza

The world’s most famous clubbing destination, Ibiza is known for its out of control nightlife, beautiful white sandy beaches. Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit this destination every year to experience some real fun in the sun. The clubs here are some of the most famous worldwide and during peak times Ibiza never sleeps. Excursions, sight-seeing opportunities and beautiful beaches mean that this destination is perfect, day or night. Regular events and parties are held in the clubs and on beaches, which are the ideal way to celebrate for a lively bride-to-be.

Barcelona

Slightly more subdued than afore mentioned destinations, Barcelona is probably best known for its local football club. A city shrouded in culture, beauty and history, this is the ideal place for those who desire a low key weekend, making it particularly perfect for those travelling with older friends and family. Although there is still nightlife locally, the city is more geared towards enjoying the sights, fine dining and the local culture.

Venice

The romance that inhabits this city makes it the ideal location for those preparing for married life. Spending your hen weekend in a romantic destination will perfectly set the tone for the upcoming nuptials. The tranquil setting will provide plenty of rest and relaxation for the bride to be. Again, there are plenty of sights, culture and history to experience. Its central location also means you are able to travel to other parts of Italy to see more of the country during your weekend.

Yesterday, my brother in law took me and my kids to an Amish Greenhouse in Sugar Grove, PA. We almost got lost as there are only a few signs on the road where this greenhouse can be located. It was out first time to see an Amish green house. It was a huge one and they grow lots of flowers and edible plants in there. What’s nice about Amish plants is that they grow it organic. We got to meet the owner and my kids got to meet some Amish kids. I am amazed of how they kept up the place as they have quite a few acres of land which they turned into huge farms of potatoes, grapes, blueberries and more. I think a clan of Amish family is living there as I see many of them in farm uniforms when they saw us as their first costumer. They gave us some free homemade cookies and the kids really wanted to play with my kids but the older sister said the kids can’t speak English yet not until they go to school. They are very cute!

An Amish Greenhouse in Sugar Grove, PA.

I bought 2 varieties of lettuce seedlings for $1.50 each tray of 6. I also bought another tray of grape tomato seedlings and roma tomato seedlings for $1.50 each. Will be busy in getting my hands dirty in the garden today!

When you have guests to stay at your house it’s important to try and make them feel comfortable. Their time will be much more enjoyable if they are happy in their surroundings and don’t feel like a stranger.

So how exactly can you ensure that they feel at home when they arrive?

Get in extra food and drink

Make sure you get in extras of all the basics such as bread, tea, milk as well as other things that your guests may want to eat or drink during their stay. If you really want to be the perfect host then find out if they have any particular needs beforehand – this includes whether there is anything they can’t have because of something like an allergy, while you could also find out whether they have any particular favourite foods or drinks and get these in too.

Empty drawers and cupboards for their clothes

It’s unlikely that your guests will want to keep their clothes in their suitcases for the length of their stay so, if you can, clear out a few drawers and make space in your cupboard for the items that they may want to hang up.

Make their bed comfortable

Nobody wants to have to make their own bed when they arrive, especially if they have had a long trip, so putting on fresh, clean bed sheets will make them feel at home instantly. Make sure they smell appealing by using a nice detergent on the sheets when you wash them beforehand. It can also help if you find comfortable pillows for them to sleep on – this can help your guests get a good night’s sleep in an unfamiliar bed.

Provide plenty of clean towels

Guests don’t like to have to ask where they can find things during their stay, and towels can be something which they will need clean ones. You may personally change your towels only every few days, but some people like to have a clean towel every morning, so providing access to plenty of fresh ones when they arrive will help them to feel comfortable from the outset.

Give them some space

Nobody likes to feel overwhelmed when they are around somebody else’s house, so allowing them some space is very important. The bedroom you are giving to them should be their sanctuary if they are looking for some personal time, so try not to disturb them if they decide that they would like to escape there for an hour or two.

Put some magazines next to the bed

As the bedroom can be somewhere your guests like to escape to, they may want to watch a bit of TV or do a bit of reading while they are there. Providing some magazines, including one with a current television schedule will allow them to see what is on, as well as giving them something to read while they catch up on their personal time.

About the author

Patricia Dixon has a couple of sons who have left home – one with his own family and another at university. When they come back to visit she makes sure to get in their favourite foods, make their beds with fresh, comfortable pillows and ensure they have plenty of space for their clothes.

This spring, don’t just clean the dust bunnies and clutter out of your home. Take steps to make your home less appealing to insects and other crawling invaders. Here are some pest proofing tips to make your home cleaner and safer.

Kitchen Snacks to Protect

Your pantry may be filled with meals that won’t go bad from a little air but need to be sealed against pests. These include things like pancake mix, dog food, dried fruits and trail mix. Keep all food in airtight containers that will contain odors, keep pests out and keep the food fresh. Wipe down containers, appliances and the trash can to be sure that there is no dried food on the exterior where insects can enjoy an easy snack.

Keep Moths Away from Clothes

Pulling a favorite shirt out of the closet and finding a moth hole in it is extremely frustrating. Protect your clothes by keeping closets dry. Moths like the moisture, so run fans or dehumidifiers to keep these areas dry.

Look in Nooks and Crannies

When cleaning, be sure to look at the nooks and crannies. It’s not enough to clean the living room and wipe down the walls. You also need to take things out of the coat closet, wipe down the corners and make sure that you have cleaned all of the spaces. While you are removing items from those forgotten areas, take this opportunity to get rid of things you no longer want, need or use. Insects love clutter because it provides them with handy hiding spaces. Protect your family by eliminating those hiding spots.

Look at the Exterior

Insects start outside your home and migrate in. They come in looking for shelter, food and water. If they find an appealing environment, they will stay. However, you can stop them from ever coming in by treating the exterior of your home. Remove rubbish piles around the house, and keep trash cans away from open windows. Dump any sources of standing water that mosquitos can use for their eggs, remove weeds and vegetation from near the foundation and keep tall grass trimmed. It might also make sense to hire a pest control professional as they can apply a variety of different indoor and outdoor treatments to help keep many different types of vermin at bay.

When you are spring cleaning the house, change how you view the process. While removing the dust and grime from the winter is important, you also want to make the property less appealing to vermin and insects. When you spring clean with pests in mind, your home will be cleaner and your family will be safer.

Two days ago was the peak of Spring in my garden. I have seen lots of activity in my flower garden. It’s good to see my daffodils and some of my tulips back many weeks ago. I suspect that the bunnies ate some of my tulips as they show up lesser and lesser each year. I’m happy to see my creeping phlox are in its full blooming period. I can see shades of pink, purple and white in my front yard. I didn’t do very much on them this year like early feeding in March. I just took my time to clean the weeds around them so they won’t have a competitor when it comes to water. I also see the bleeding hearts are coming out. We inherited a nice tall bush of lilacs in our backyard. It’s scent is lingering every time I explore my backyard. It’s a nice feeling to see flowers surrounding my home lately. How about you, do you take care of your flower garden too?

When people talk about travelling through Asia it appears that many people end up recalling anecdotes from Vietnam, Thailand, China or Japan. Malaysia is also a popular place for travelling but perhaps one which is overlooked by the majority when they try to devise a strategy to make their money go as far as possible. Malaysia actually borders the south of Thailand and shares its southern border with Singapore.

Before you set off into the sunshine of Malaysia it may be worth purchasing some ICE travel money. ICE are renowned for offering competitive rates and innovative products such as prepaid currency cards.

Kuala Lumpur

It’s the federal capital of Malaysia and also the most populous city with a staggering population of 7.1 million, 1.6 million of these people residing in the core of the city and the rest in the suburbs and outskirts. It is considered as one of the fastest growing metropolis’s both in terms of population and commercial/industrial development.

Visiting Petrona’s towers should be high on your list as these were once the tallest buildings to dominate any world landscape, they since lost their accolade to the Burj Khalifa building in Dubai and a few other buildings which were erected after 1998. The buildings house a number of prestigious companies and the interiors are exquisitely designed and furnished. From outside the building, you can access the double-decked Skybridge and get a fantastic view of the city, but be sure to come early as only a limited number of passes are available for the day.

Although you may feel like you have been to every Chinatown in every city you’ve ever visited, there is never any harm in detailing the differences in respective cities Chinatown’s or devouring some delicious stir fry. It’s also a great place for those who love bargain hunting as during the day and especially at night time, there are a number of stalls offering different items which you can haggle for. During your foray into Chinatown you should visit the variety of temples which are present such as Sri Mahamariamman Temple and Kuan Yin Temple which were both built in the late 19th century.

Although there are a number of authentic treasures such as caves and temples to visit, you also want to break up the holiday with some other types of enjoyable sightseeing. This city claims to have the largest aquarium in the world (5000sq feet) and it resides in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It is home to 150 species of marine wildlife including tiger sharks and deadly sea snakes. It’s also an excellent venue for taking the family to.

If you’re planning on holiday and are unsure of where to acquire your currency, check ICEPlc.co.uk for some fantastic rates and over 50 currencies.
